“SCA” sprang up in August of 2012 as a result of seeing the documentary movie An Appalachian Dawn, which said movie was introduced to our community by IgniteRevival Ministries.
Ignite began as a non-denominational prayer group which came together in June 2012, to pray for their families, friends, neighbors and the community of Springville. It was through this prayer group that the documentary movie An Appalachian Dawn was presented. This movie has been shown numerous times in our community to countless families and individuals.
An Appalachian Dawn is a documentary of Manchester, a small community located in Clay County Kentucky that was ravaged by; drug abuse/addiction, corruption, children dying from drug abuse and a town inundated with drug dealers; which ultimately effected families, education, businesses, and society in general. The movie revealed how the community united when churches and individuals joined together to take a stand against drugs and its overall affect it had in their community. Through prayer and action, the tide of despair and tragedy affecting Manchester was changed for the better.
After each viewing of this movie, a brief presentation was given enlightening those in attendance to just some of the "issues" that have infiltrated Springville for many years and to new "issues" that have been springing up. It was shocking to learn that Springville has many of the same issues that once ravaged Manchester, but on a greater magnitude because Springville’s population is much small when compared to Manchester's.
There was hope for Manchester and there is “HOPE” for Springville but our community must: Unite - Be informed - Be equipped - Be involved. This is why “SCA” was established.
